About The Position

As part of Thurgood Marshall College Fund’s (TMCF) commitment to Historically Black Community Colleges (HBCCs) and in response to evolving trends within industry and the workforce, TMCF recognizes the opportunity to drive economic mobility through alternative educational and career pathways. This program is intended for early career talent and aims to remove barriers to meaningful employment. The Workforce Development Summit is designed to serve as a forum to bring together workforce talent from our HBCCs and community participants to deepen partnerships with various companies looking for work-ready talent. During the four-day Workforce Summit students will engage directly with a variety of industry partners, gaining insight into the evolving “world of work” and the skills needed to thrive, grow, and lead in today’s job market. Dates: November 13-16, 2025 Location: Birmingham, AL

Requirements

  • Must have earned a high school diploma or high school equivalency between 2018 and 2025.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older by November 13, 2025.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident Alien.
  • Must be a first-time participant in this program (previous participants are not eligible).
  • Must be a recent high school graduate (graduating between December 2024 – May 2025) who plans to enroll at one of the eligible Historically Black Community Colleges (HBCCs) or a current student or recent graduate (May or Summer 2025) from one of the participating HBCCs, enrolled in a part-time or full-time associate degree program, or certificate or technical program.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in professional development training to build core professional competencies including interview techniques, personal branding, and professional etiquette.
  • Attend resume enhancement workshops to develop competitive, career-ready resumes.
  • Engage in exclusive networking opportunities to connect with industry leaders.
  • Learn directly from industry professionals on career-ready topics through industry insights and leadership panels.
  • Prepare for life after graduation, whether that is entering the workforce or transferring to a four-year HBCU.
  • Receive guidance on managing finances and planning for financial and career success.
  • Explore apprenticeships, co-ops, internships, and full-time job opportunities with employers and/or opportunities available to continue education at a four-year HBCU.
