About The Position

The Texas Juvenile Justice Department is seeking a Security Officer III to perform complex security enforcement work at the Giddings facility. This role involves monitoring and patrolling the grounds, checking employees and visitors in and out of the facility, and inspecting and safeguarding buildings, properties, and equipment. The Security Officer will maintain facility security and traffic control, ensuring that contraband is not introduced into the facility. The position operates under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment, and may require working in excess of 40 hours per week and being on-call. Key responsibilities include controlling access to secured buildings, monitoring and patrolling the facility, watching for unauthorized persons, fires, and unusual occurrences, and reporting emergencies. The officer will also monitor surveillance cameras, manage vehicle traffic, greet visitors, maintain logs of all persons and vehicles entering and exiting the facility, and issue and collect keys while maintaining key control. Collaboration with facility staff to meet established objectives and goals is essential, as is the ability to identify and report any security violations or emergencies. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to pass a criminal background check. Preferred qualifications include a Level II or III security guard license issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety, military police experience, and experience in the use of firearms. The role also involves physical demands such as heavy lifting, prolonged standing, and the ability to communicate effectively in various situations. The Security Officer III will be expected to perform all duties in compliance with agency safety policies and procedures, report safety hazards, and complete required documentation in the event of an accident or injury.
