The Title III Non-Public Tutor at Saint John the Baptist School is responsible for supporting the education of English Learners (ELs) in alignment with the mission of the South Bend Community School Corporation. The position requires a candidate who can work effectively with a linguistically and culturally diverse group of individuals and has a basic understanding of second language acquisition. The tutor will assist in providing supplemental English Language Development instruction and will be employed for the 2025-2026 school year, not exceeding the funds allocated for this project.

  • Assist in supplemental English Language Development instruction including vocabulary and language development, guided interaction strategies, reading comprehension strategies, use of modeling, realia, graphic organizers and visuals.
  • Tutor students as assigned based on their specific language development skill needs.
  • Relay student progress information in English Language Development to certified classroom teacher/s or school administrator/s on an ongoing basis.
  • Participate in professional development activities that support supplemental English Language Development principles and strategies.
  • Carry out policies and procedures of the South Bend Community School Corporation.
  • Use time effectively.
  • Complete sign in and sign out on TCP.
  • Teacher Certification Required.
  • Basic knowledge of second language acquisition and its terminology.
  • Ability to work with a linguistically and culturally diverse group of individuals.
  • Good organizational skills and initiative.
  • Ability to exercise tact and discretion when dealing with parents and students.
  • Excellent oral communication and written communication skills.
  • Ability to instruct students individually and in small groups under the direction of a certified teacher.
  • Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish, English/Other).
  • Hourly rate plus FICA and TERF.
