About The Position

Under general supervision, assists a certificated teacher with specialized programs; monitors and reinforces student learning; assists with classroom management; and performs a variety of support functions related to specialized programs.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED.
Two (2) years of college (48 semester hours) or an Associate's degree, or pass the ParaPro Assessment.
Must possess and maintain valid CPR and First Aid certification.
Must be able to demonstrate total confidentiality.
Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, and staff.
Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Must be able to perform all essential functions of the position.

Responsibilities

Assists teacher with implementing specialized instructional programs for students with special needs; monitors and reinforces student learning of assigned tasks.
Assists teacher with the preparation of instructional materials; operates and maintains a variety of classroom equipment.
Assists in maintaining student discipline; observes and monitors students during classroom activities, lunch periods, and on the playground.
Assists students with special needs with self-help skills, including feeding, personal hygiene, and toileting.
Provides specialized health care services to students as needed, including catheterization, suctioning, and gastrostomy feeding; administers medication as directed.
Assists in maintaining a clean and orderly classroom environment.
Performs a variety of clerical duties, including preparing attendance reports, typing, and filing.
Attends meetings and trainings as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
