About The Position

As a Tissue Recovery Coordinator, you will be responsible for recovering for musculoskeletal, skin, cardiovascular and ocular tissue recovery  to maximize the availability of tissues/corneas for transplantation. Responsibilities include: Aseptically recovers musculoskeletal, skin, cardiovascular and ocular tissues in accordance with FDA, AATB, and OSHA standards, and Indiana Donor Network protocols. Accurately and efficiently completes post-case tasks including packaging and labeling blood for serological testing and archiving, packaging and labeling recovered tissues for processing partners, and cleaning instruments/equipment and prepares them for sterilization Completes special projects and/or assignments as directed to foster departmental/corporate quality improvement initiatives. Participates in ongoing education to improve the quality of recovered tissues, timely charting and documentation, and release of tissue for transplantation.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a one (1) year allied health care technical or professional program with current certification, or Associates degree level study with an emphasis in allied health or science field, or two (2) years of experience in tissue banking or related field is required.
  • General understanding of disease processes.
  • Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to read and follow checklists and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with nurses, physicians,  hospital/transplant professionals, funeral directors, Coroners, and Indiana Donor  Network employees.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of the instrumentation and equipment utilized routinely in tissue recovery.
  • Knowledge of and skill to create and maintain a sterile environment.
  • Knowledge of FDA regulations and AATB standards.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and to identify what situations require escalation to  higher levels.
  • Ability to use resources effectively and efficiently.
  • Working knowledge of office equipment, including but not limited to personal  computer, Microsoft Office products, data entry, fax machines, calculator, cameras,  photocopier, mobile phone or PDA.
  • Ability to serve 12-hour shifts as assigned.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in tissue donation or transplantation is highly desirable.
