About The Position

The Tissue Coordinator at Sarah Cannon Research Institute plays a crucial role in supporting the institution's molecular profiling initiative. This position involves maintaining accurate records for tissue sample acquisition and shipping, obtaining archived tumor biopsies, and coordinating the delivery of fresh tissue samples. The coordinator will also assist in scheduling research tissue biopsies, preparing necessary study supplies, and tracking various metrics related to the tissue acquisition process. This role is essential in advancing oncology treatments and improving outcomes for cancer patients.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, preferably a Bachelor's Degree.
  • Knowledge of OSHA requirements for safe handling of blood and body fluids.
  • Maintain IATA certification.
  • At least one year of experience, preferably in healthcare.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the institution's molecular profiling initiative.
  • Maintain accurate records for tissue sample acquisition and shipping.
  • Obtain archived tumor biopsies and respond to queries from sponsors and contract labs.
  • Track various metrics around the tissue acquisition process.
  • Assist with obtaining fresh and archival tumor biopsies and sending/retrieving samples to/from study sponsors or contract labs.
  • Schedule research tissue biopsies and communicate procedure information to patients and/or site staff.
  • Prepare study supplies/source documents necessary for obtaining fresh tissue prior to patient treatment.
  • Attend biopsy procedures and aid in the collection of fresh tissue samples.
  • Coordinate the delivery and receipt of fresh tissue samples with hospital pathology laboratories.
  • Notify courier of any sample shipments and make necessary arrangements for late samples.
  • Ensure adequate supply of dry ice is available for shipments.
  • Package and ship biopsy samples according to shipping manuals.
  • Respond to queries generated from study sponsors or contract labs regarding patient and sample data.
  • Track metrics related to tissue sample requests and processing, reporting monthly to leadership.
  • Utilize the company vehicle for transportation of specimens, and be open to using a personal vehicle if necessary.
