About The Position

The Tire Technician is a critical member of our maintenance team, ensuring the safety and reliability of our fleet by managing all aspects of tire care. This role involves performing hands-on tire maintenance in the shop. The ideal candidate will have experience with heavy-duty truck tires, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to maintaining company standards.

Requirements

  • Experience: Previous experience as a tire technician, preferably with heavy-duty trucks (Class 8), commercial vehicles, or an equivalent mechanical background.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in using tire changing machines, balancing equipment, air impact wrenches, and pneumatic jacks.
  • Certifications: TIA (Tire Industry Association) certification, OSHA certifications on mounting tires and air ups is required. If the applicant does not have these certifications, the applicant must be certified prior to starting work.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 75 lbs. regularly), bend, squat, and stand for extended periods in various weather conditions.
  • Work Ethic: Reliable, self-motivated, able to work independently with minimal supervision, and perform well in a fast-paced environment.
  • Communication: Basic computer skills and effective communication for documentation and teamwork.
  • License: A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required; a commercial driver's license (CDL) is a bonus.

Responsibilities

  • Inspection and Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections of fleet vehicles' tires to assess condition, tread depth, and air pressure, adhering to company and Department of Transportation (DOT) standards.
  • Repair and Replacement: Perform professional tire repairs (patches, plugs) and replacements, including mounting and de-mounting tires using specialized equipment.
  • Balancing and Alignment Support: Balance tires and support mechanics with basic alignment checks as required.
  • Inventory Management: Work with our tire manager in tracking tire inventory, loading and unloading of tires from a van trailer or flatbed, notify management when needing to order new stock, and maintain an organized and clean work environment.
  • Record Keeping: Accurately document all tire maintenance activities, including repairs, replacements, and inspections, using the company's maintenance software/system.
  • Safety Compliance: Operate all equipment safely and follow all established safety procedures and protocols.
