About The Position

The Tire Technician is responsible for ensuring the operation of all Roberts Hawaii vehicles by maintaining fleet tires and the tire shop facility. The technician performs scheduled and unscheduled tire and wheel inspections, maintenance, and repairs on busses and non-revenue vehicles, including trucks, cars, forklifts. Additional responsibilities include operating and maintaining tire-related tolls, machinery, and storage area while ensuring a clean and organized work environment. The technician works independently, following verbal and written instructions in accordance with department procedures.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid Hawaii Type 3 driver's license with a current Hawaii Driver History Record
  • Minimum of three months of related experience and/or training (technical or trade school preferred) or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing in English
  • Basic computer skills required to operate fleet management software
  • Operational knowledge of basic hand tools (preferred)
  • Availability to work flexible schedules, including weekends, nights, and holidays
  • Ability to follow instructions and apply logical reasoning
  • Accuracy in recording maintenance-related information
  • Basic math skills for calculations
  • Strong organizational skills, including maintaining a clean and functional workspace and managing time efficiently
  • Team-oriented mindset, meeting deadlines and responsibilities, valuing other opinions, supporting team goals, and fostering a collaborative work environment
  • The ability to repeatedly lift 50 pounds to a height of approximately five feet and occasionally lift up to 80 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Strong manual dexterity with the ability to frequently bend, stoop, reach overhead, kneel, squat, and perform other physical demanding tasks
  • Ability to work in a repair shop environment with exposure to loud noises, exhaust fumes, and chemicals
  • Flexibility to bend at the knees and work in awkward positions as required
  • Availability to work various shifts, including holidays and weekends, as posted, with overtime as directed and scheduled days off as assigned

Responsibilities

  • Conducts visual inspections of fleet tires, and wheels, including air pressure checks.
  • Performs tire and wheel maintenance, including dismounting, remounting, balancing, regrooving, squaring/pairing, measuring diameter and circumference, branding and alignment checks.
  • Tracks and maintains tire and wheel inventory to ensure adequate stock levels.
  • Cleans company vehicles as needed.
  • Polishes and paints vehicle rims.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of the tire shop and related work areas.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
