Summary The Development Engineer II has mastered the Development Engineer I duties and responsibilities. The Development Engineer II requires knowledge of established engineering principles and methods related to tire design and analysis. They are responsible for all phases of replacement tire development including the design of experiments, testing and analysis of results.

Requirements

  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong technical, analytic and problem solving skills.
  • Proficient in the use of engineering software tools such as 3D CAD programs, Matlab, statistical software and Microsoft Office.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in Tire development or Equivalent.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position, often sitting for prolonged periods of time while working on a computer.
  • Ability to repeat motions that include the wrists, hands and/or fingers
  • Employees must possess the ability to regularly lift, carry, push, pull and move materials and objects weighing up to 40 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct projects for replacement tire lines, product enhancements and line expansions.
  • Perform requirements analysis and implement tire development project plans as required.
  • Create budgets for each project and track expenses.
  • Receive overall project targets and establish specific tire performance targets.
  • Check and approve mold drawings and assure adherence to design standards.

  • Create and issue experimental tire specifications.
  • Set up experimental designs utilizing appropriate analytical and statistical methodologies.
  • Work with tire manufacturing groups to build and verify experimental tire builds.
  • Generate test requests, oversee tire testing and summarize test results.
  • Issue development project interim and final reports. Present results to management and other internal departments.
  • Implement development tires and specifications into production. Perform required internal and external certification testing to certify products into production.
  • Participate in regular department meetings. Conduct regular design reviews on assigned projects.
  • Participate on task force teams to increase technical capability and achieve increased performance.
  • Participate on industry groups such as Tire & Rim, RMA, SAE, and ASTM.
