About The Position

Baylor TIP Residential Summer Program Teaching Assistants (TAs) provide supervision and mentoring to the students who qualify for and participate in summer residential programs offered through The Center for Gifted Education and Talent Development. TAs are responsible for supporting students during the academic day. They report to an assigned instructor and assist in teaching a course that is appropriately rigorous and challenging for high ability students. They also supervise students during class breaks and lunch and lead a one-hour evening study session with the students in their class. An Advanced Undergrad (120 credit hours) OR 2 years of Undergrad coursework, and zero years of experience are required. Relevant professional experience may substitute for some credit hours. Schedule Beginning with onsite arrival, schedule will consist of seven days per week. TA working hours are primarily the hours students are in class; other schedule commitments include meeting time, and additional time for planning and preparation of activities. Personal time will vary daily. Room and board on Baylor’s campus are included for the days this job requires staff to be on campus. Requirements

  • An Advanced Undergrad (120 credit hours) OR 2 years of Undergrad coursework, and zero years of experience are required.
  • Relevant professional experience may substitute for some credit hours.
  • Content expertise in the area of instruction (e.g., mathematics, engineering etc.)
  • Ability to communicate effectively and positively with students, families, and other staff
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Applications must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Responsibilities

  • Complete all required trainings and job-specific assignments prior to working with students
  • Assist instructor in planning and implementing high-quality lessons
  • Arrive at Baylor Wednesday prior to the start of the class for on-site trainings and set-up
  • Attend all required staff meetings
  • Create a fun and welcoming environment for all students
  • Encourage students to positively engage with all activities, staff, and other students
  • Actively supervise students during assigned times to ensure their safety and well-being
  • Adhere to and enforce all safety and risk management policies
  • Collaborate with the leadership team and other onsite staff members to resolve any student disciplinary issues or concerns in an appropriate manner that aligns with the Center’s mission and policies
  • Maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and staff
  • Assist with the logistical running of the program, helping with administrative and operational duties as assigned
  • Complete all tasks required for effectively closing the session (submitting evaluations, returning supplies that belong to Baylor, reporting any property damage that occurred during the program, etc.)
  • Assist with transportation and care of students with medical needs that require a visit to the onsite medical clinic or to the dorms for needed rest
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor’s mission
  • Ability to comply with university policies
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance
