A day in the life of an Associate Designer, SHED at Timberland looks a little like this. Reporting to the Senior Manager, SHED, you will be an integral member of the SHED team in creating innovative and unique product that meets the needs of the Timberland consumer and embodies Brand Purpose and Creative Vision. You will be responsible for applying seasonal creative direction, new concept ideation, upper pattern design, materializations, technical packages, color rotations and meeting key calendar deadlines. And you will gain an in-depth immersion into Timberland footwear and apparel products, key technologies, and sales support programs.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of footwear design experience, with work industry preferred.
  • Ability to work with industrial machines including cutting, sewing, and skiving, as well as learn new hand-crafted techniques.
  • Strong communication skills, and ability to communicate concepts with digital renderings.
  • Ability to contribute and generate ideas with Designers.
  • Ability to respond quickly to multiple projects with strong time management skills.
  • Strong ability to set priorities and manage deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Illustrator and Photoshop preferably in a Mac environment.
  • 3D Modeling and rendering experience.
  • Other basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Products.
  • Experience with leather, textiles, graphic, color, footwear or apparel.
  • High attention to detail, with strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment while collaborating effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness to work in a hands-on environment and continuously expand and develop skillset.
  • Curiosity for how things are made.
  • Proactive with new projects, learning or trying new things.

Responsibilities

  • Design and create footwear concepts on existing collections through pattern, color and material application.
  • Create two and three-dimensional sketches illustrating new, unique product ideas and concepts, which meet the expectations, delineated in the product brief.
  • Continually expand knowledge of distribution channel and market trends to ensure concept feasibility.
  • Research extends to application and use of traditional and new materials, compounds and constructions when applicable.
  • Utilize Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and Illustrator) to visualize and present accurate artwork and photo realistic concepts.
  • Provide and communicate detailed tech information for each project solution.
  • Participate in hands-on operations through sketching, cutting, and gluing.
  • Train to create product using cutting and assembly operations, the use of automated cutting tools, skiving, pressing and sewing.
