About The Position

Primary Purpose: To provide high-quality assessment, data analysis, and instructional support to districts by translating student performance data into actionable instructional plans. This role supports both Curriculum & Instruction and the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) by serving as the district expert on student growth measures, assessment platforms, and local assessment design. The Assessment Education Specialist works directly with teachers and campus leaders to strengthen data literacy, improve instructional decision-making, and ensure alignment between assessments, TEKS, and statewide growth expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Texas teaching certification required
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of successful classroom teaching experience required
  • Demonstrated track record of student growth required
  • Knowledge of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) required
  • Strong data-analysis skills, including interpreting scale scores, percentiles, and growth projections across multiple platforms
  • Proficiency with third-party assessment systems (e.g., NWEA MAP, Renaissance, IXL, STAAR, CIRCLE) and ability to train others in their use
  • Deep understanding of differentiated instruction, intervention strategies, and small-group instructional design
  • Ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable next steps for teachers and administrators
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to support educators in both one-on-one and group settings
  • Service-oriented mindset with initiative, problem-solving ability, and a commitment to continuous improvement
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with LEAs, ESC staff, and statewide partners
  • Must be physically able to tolerate prolonged sitting, frequent standing; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting, and standing
  • Must be physically able to tolerate frequent standing and walking, repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching, occasional driving
  • Must be physically able to tolerate regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds or more)
  • Must be physically able to work inside; tolerate frequent regionwide travel and occasional statewide travel; regular exposure to noise
  • Must be able to work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours on occasion
  • Regular Attendance is an essential function

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred
  • Experience supporting teachers in data analysis, intervention planning, or instructional coaching preferred
  • Familiarity with the Texas Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) framework preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides data-driven instructional support by leading teachers through the “Now What?” process following assessment cycles, transforming data into targeted instructional plans through professional development, coaching, and collaborative planning.
  • Models and coaches effective intervention practices, including small-group instruction, error analysis, and strategies for addressing high-priority student learning gaps.
  • Supports campus and district leadership by interpreting school-wide data, identifying trends, and developing strategic post-assessment action steps.
  • Serves as the district expert on TIA student growth measures, including understanding vendor-specific growth targets, navigating assessment dashboards, troubleshooting reports, and maintaining knowledge of assessments from Pre-K through grade 12.
  • Collaborates with colleagues in and beyond the ESC to identify professional development needs through detailed data analysis and self-reflection to provide quality services to customers that positively impact student learning
  • Sets modifies, and meets short- and long-term professional goals based on self-assessment, reflection, peer and supervisor feedback, contemporary research, and analysis of student learning
  • Creates ongoing collegial relationships with customers
  • Travels as a part of job responsibilities
  • Maintains a functioning cell phone and is accessible through this phone as deemed appropriate by the director. A functioning cell phone means that it is charged, activated, messages checked, and mailbox emptied regularly
  • Reports for work ready to perform responsibilities
  • Performs duties that directly and/or indirectly impact student performance in Region 16
  • Maintains a professional level of confidentiality regarding all ESC matters
  • Supports the ESC Manifesto: mission, goals, and objectives of the ESC strategic plan
  • Upholds and adheres to safety rules and policies of the ESC safety program
  • Performs professional responsibilities as required by ESC policies, processes, and procedures (e.g., technical assistance, time and effort, etc.)
  • Manages time, calendar, and job responsibilities to meet deadlines
  • Meets proficiency levels of required technology skills as outlined by supervisor
  • Incorporates appropriate technology in daily work and exhibits continual growth in technologies as outlined by supervisor
