About The Position

Union Rescue Mission (URM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area. We are dedicated to serving men, women, and children experiencing homelessness and providing comprehensive emergency and long-term services to help them escape the dangerous streets of Skid Row. Established in 1891, URM is now one of the largest rescue missions of its kind in the United States and the oldest in Los Angeles. Under the supervision of the Thrift Store Manager, the Thrift Store Production Worker is responsible for assisting the production crew in cleaning, prep, and tagging merchandise such as clothing, books, electronics, shoes, accessories, household items, etc.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent, required.
• Thrift store, retail store, warehouse, assembly line or restaurant experience, a plus.

• Perform in a fast-paced environment and possess strong organizational skills.
• Ability to determine the value of donations.

• Must be an effective team member.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends.

Responsibilities

• Cleans, tags, and packs merchandise for pricing.
• Determines which items are perishable and which are recyclable and discards unsellable items.
• Assists other departments/positions, as needed.
• Sets the pace for sorting.
• Records production numbers daily. (i.e., carts, units, etc.)
• Communicates regularly with management about store issues.
• Actively engages customers on floor sales to increase donations and merchandise sales.
• Ensures monthly revenue goals are met.
• Provides excellent customer service by greeting and assisting customers and donors; and responds to customer inquiries/complaints in a timely manner.
• Ensures store and displays are maintained, clean, and attractive.
• Maintains safety including all Health and Security policies and procedures.
• Conducts tasks and other projects as assigned by the Thrift Store Manager/Supervisor.

• Encourages guests in their faith and growth in Jesus Christ.
