The Threat Detection & Response Tier 1 Analyst role at MUFG involves researching and analyzing potential cybersecurity threats across various systems and environments. The analyst will respond to incidents, monitor environments, and enhance detection and remediation capabilities to protect the organization’s assets and processes. This position operates within a shift-based team, requiring work during evenings and weekends, and emphasizes collaboration and proactive threat management.

  • Perform cybersecurity threat detection, assessment, and mitigation efforts as part of a 24/7 global team.
  • Investigate potential cybersecurity events across multiple environments using various tools and techniques.
  • Support inquiries from compliance teams to ensure documentation is complete and processes comply with information security policies.
  • Create reports analyzing activities or trends within and outside of the organization.
  • Perform threat hunting across the environment to detect adversary activity.
  • Support the development of security operations detections, playbooks, and automations.
  • Review internal logs and alerts to identify potential cybersecurity events and triage cases based on automated alerts.
  • Monitor external service provider activity to detect potential cybersecurity events.
  • Analyze security data from all systems in real time to thwart potential threats and attacks.
  • Analyze compromised systems and remediate to a clean state.
  • Perform breach indicator assessments to investigate network traffic for malicious activity.
  • Assist with internal or third-party employee investigations.
  • Produce reports identifying and analyzing relevant upcoming and ongoing threats to the enterprise.
  • Research evolving threats, techniques, tools, and vulnerabilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Cyber Security, Computer Science, or related discipline or equivalent work experience.
  • 1+ years of experience working in the cybersecurity or related field.
  • Relevant technical and industry certifications such as those provided by GIAC, EC-Council, ISC2, and CompTIA are preferred.
  • Experience in one or more security domains including Security Governance and Oversight, Security Risk Management, Network Security, Threat and Vulnerability Management, or Incident Response and Forensics preferred.
  • Experience with information security risk management, including audits, reviews, and risk assessments.
  • Understanding of enterprise detection and response technologies and processes.
  • Ability to perform risk analysis utilizing logs and other information from various sources.
  • Understanding of network protocols, operating systems (Windows, Unix, Linux), and mobile device security.
  • Knowledge of cloud security, networks, databases, and applications.
  • Knowledge of various types of cyber-attacks and their implementations.
  • A fundamental understanding of enterprise cybersecurity frameworks such as MITRE ATT & CK and Cyber Kill Chain.
  • Experience in operational processes such as security monitoring, data correlation, troubleshooting, and security operations.
