Information on the division: Located in Livonia, Michigan, the 120+ employee facility (100,000 sq. ft.) is one of Héroux-Devtek’s centers of excellence for design, development, manufacturing, assembly and support of landing gear, actuation systems and other aerospace components. As part of the Central Division you will lead P&L responsible for critical machining operations of major commercial aircraft programs supporting Boeing, LockHeed Martin, Parker Hannifan, and military initiatives such as the B-2 Stealth, F105, and V280. With a strong focus on latest technology of the manufacturing processes with machining automation and techniques we aim to remain the best value producer of complex landing gear components. Summary: The Thread Grinder utilizes manual processes and CNC knowledge to perform precision smoothing, sharpening, polishing, or grinding of metal ball screws, ball bearings, and other Aerospace and Defense components. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Vocational training or 3 years of Grinder experience
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship

Responsibilities

  • Grinds or polishes precision ball screws and other aerospace components.
  • Operates a thread grind machine – including but not limited to: OBS, Drake, Matrix, and V-thread grinders.
  • Process: Study blueprints or layouts to determine grinding procedures, and to plan machine setups and operational sequences.
  • Select and mount grinding wheels on machines, using hand tools and applying knowledge of abrasives and grinding procedures.
  • Load work pieces into grinding machines
  • Compute numbers, widths, and angles of cutting tools, and adjust tools to produce specified cuts
  • As needed, hand-finish surfaces of work pieces, using but not limited to grinding wheels and hand tools.
  • Inspect and measure workpieces for quality and tolerance requirements using micrometers, comparators, and appropriate gauges
  • Confers with supervisor or programmer to resolve machine malfunctions and production errors and obtains approval to continue production.
  • Maintains machines and removes and replaces broken or worn machine tools, using hand tools.
  • Follows all safety protocols, documentation requirements, and Aerospace quality standards.
