About The Position

University Health Physicians, a multi-specialty academic group practice affiliated with the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, is seeking a board-certified/board-eligible Thoracic Surgeon for a full-time, academic faculty position within the Division of Vascular/Thoracic Surgery. This position offers a unique opportunity to practice at a safety net medical system and the area VA serving a diverse patient population. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to patient care, academic scholarship, and teaching in a dynamic multidisciplinary environment. The position includes a 50/50 split clinical role at University Health and the Kansas City VA, with responsibilities including providing clinical services in thoracic surgery, participating in multidisciplinary thoracic oncology programs, engaging in scholarly research, and teaching and mentoring residents, fellows, and medical students.

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Board certification or eligibility in Thoracic Surgery (ABTS).
  • Eligible for medical licensure in the state of Missouri.
  • Demonstrated excellence in clinical practice, academic productivity, and teaching.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in clinical and academic settings.

Nice To Haves

  • Fellowship training (thoracic focused integrated residency) in general thoracic surgery.
  • Experience with robotic thoracic procedures.
  • A track record of peer-reviewed publications and funded research is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical services in thoracic surgery, including minimally invasive and robotic-assisted techniques.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary thoracic oncology programs and thoracic surgical case conferences.
  • Engage in scholarly research, including clinical trials and/or translational research.
  • Teach and mentor residents, fellows, and medical students.
  • Contribute to program development and quality improvement initiatives.
