About The Position

The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, a part of the UW Department of Surgery, is recruiting an exceptional Thoracic surgeon to join our dynamic and growing Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. We are looking for candidates with a demonstrated track record of clinical excellence and academic contributions. The successful candidate will have a strong focus on a clinical practice in general thoracic surgery delivering high-quality patient care, and development of a scholarly clinical or basic science research program. Expertise in minimally invasive techniques (VATS and/or robotics) is mandatory. A willingness to participate in our lung transplant and ECMO programs is highly desired but not mandatory. Applicants for this position will be considered for the following titles: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor on the Clinical Health Science (CHS) track. The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist. This position is full time This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location. This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and then every two years.

Requirements

  • Candidate is required to have a Wisconsin medical license by the appointment start date.
  • Board certification or board eligibility from the American Board of Thoracic Surgery is required by the appointment start date.
  • MD, DO, or Equivalent is required

Nice To Haves

  • For an appointment at Associate Professor or Professor rank on CHS Track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the CHS Track.

Responsibilities

  • Support for research and/or programmatic participation/development will also be considered.
  • Expertise in minimally invasive techniques (VATS and/or robotics) is mandatory.
  • A willingness to participate in our lung transplant and ECMO programs is highly desired but not mandatory.
  • Work with colleagues in the Department of Surgery and throughout the Medical School and University to develop productive research relationships, which result in national presentations and publications
  • Participate in professional, public, and university service
  • Teach medical students, and residents
  • Instruct fellows in our ACGME-approved traditional cardiothoracic training program.
  • Participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members
