About The Position

THE OPPORTUNITY: The School of Economic Sciences (SES) at Washington State University is seeking an outstanding faculty member for the Thomas B. Mick Endowed Chair in Small Grains Economics. The endowment offers a generous operating fund to support research and Extension. Applications are invited for a full-time, 9-month tenured position at the Associate Professor or Full Professor level to begin August 16, 2026 (or as negotiated) at the Pullman, Washington campus. The successful candidate’s research will focus on one or more of the following areas: commodity markets; international trade; demand analysis; economic impact analysis; agricultural policy; and risk management.

Requirements

  • Earned Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Additional Required Qualification for Associate Professor rank: An academic record and work experience sufficient to be granted tenure and the academic rank of Associate Professor in the School of Economic Sciences at WSU. The rank of Associate Professor requires an established research program that identifies the individual as a significant, independent contributor to his or her field with the potential for national distinction. Evidence includes (but is not limited to) refereed publications, citations, externally funded grants, the presentation of papers at professional meetings, and the evaluation of the candidate's standing in the profession by at least four external referees.
  • Additional Required Qualification for Professor rank: An academic record and work experience sufficient to be granted tenure and the academic rank of Full Professor in the School of Economic Sciences at WSU. The rank of Full Professor requires a national reputation in the faculty member's primary research area. Evidence of a national reputation includes (but is not limited to) distinction for the quality of his or her contribution to the discipline, especially in refereed publications, citations, funded research, invitations to present papers, and the evaluation of the candidate's standing in the profession by at least four external referees.

Responsibilities

  • This position has extension, research, and teaching responsibilities.
  • The successful candidate will maintain an active outreach program targeted at the Washington small grains and oilseed production sectors. This includes working closely with plant-sciences faculty on developing both education programs and Extension publications related to wheat, barley, and canola production.
  • The successful candidate will have an internationally recognized economics research program and will cooperate with internal and external research colleagues to identify research priorities, conduct collaborative projects, and disseminate results by publishing in appropriate peer-reviewed journals.
  • Teaching responsibilities include economics courses based on the candidate’s interest and the needs of SES.
  • Other duties include securing extramural funds from state, regional and national grant sources to support the program; mentoring and advising graduate students; and participating as appropriate in committees, instruction, and other activities of SES and WSU.
