About The Position

Help provide a positive zoo experience through exceptional visitor service performing the following retail duties. Obtains or receives merchandise, total bill, accepts payment, and makes change for customers in retail store by performing the following duties.

Requirements

High School Diploma and one year cashier and customer service experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of specialized education and experience.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to interpret and carry out a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving a variety of concrete variables in situations.
Ability to talk and hear, stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and climb ladders.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.

Nice To Haves

Ability to speak Spanish helpful.
Ability to operate cash register efficiently and to make change.
Merchandising experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Uses alarm code to open and close shop as required by schedule.
Stocks and clean shelves, counters, or fixtures.
Assists with advertising displays and merchandise on counters or fixtures to promote sales.
Assists with advertising displays and merchandise on counters or fixtures to promote sales.
Assists with merchandise reorders and buying procedures as requested.
Unpacks, counts, marks, or tags price on merchandise according to established procedures.
Answers customers questions concerning location, price, and use of merchandise and availability.
Communicates management instructions to other sales associates.
Performs cash register functions to total price and tax on merchandise purchased by customer including any calculation of discounts.
Runs register reports, makes register corrections, prepares bank deposits and daily sales reports, and uses computer on limited basis to assist management as required.
Accepts payment and makes change according to Gift Shop Policies.
Wraps and/or bags merchandise for customers.
Assists with monthly stock counts and annual inventories and recording damages.
Performs other duties assigned.
