About the position

Staff holding a cook position primarily work in student dining providing approximately 5000 meals per day to the students, faculty, staff and guests of the college who dine in Commons. They are also called upon to prepare items for catered events as needed. As such, this position calls for someone who is able to safely, efficiently and consistently produce and present food in a high volume setting. A focus on providing outstanding customer service and exemplary organizational and time management skills are a must. This position may be considered 'Essential Personnel' in the event that an emergency occurs on the Bates campus or in the vicinity that would impact Bates, inclement weather forces the closing of campus, or other emergency events deemed appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare student meals.
  • Prepare catered events.
  • Assist in other areas as needed.
  • Follow standardized recipes.
  • Ensure that the food being served is properly labeled.
  • Ensure proper production records are maintained.
  • Ensure proper sanitation standards are maintained.
  • Maintain the highest levels of customer service practices, displaying a pleasant demeanor and helpful attitude at all times.
  • Promote and value diversity and practice two-way communication.
  • Attend monthly Dining, Conferences and Campus Events town meetings.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Culinary degree or equivalent combination of education and experience desired.
  • Serve Safe certification.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in an institutional or high volume full service food operation required with a demonstrated forward professional progression.
  • Previous experience in a high volume collegiate setting desired.
