The Pratt & Whitney Materials and Processes Engineering (MPE) organization is seeking an engineer to execute Thermal and Environmental Barrier Coating development, characterization, and production implementation in current & future jet engines. The engineer will serve customers across the enterprise (supply chain, engine programs, advanced technology, etc.) to plan, execute, and report on technical research and development related to Thermal and Environmental Barrier coatings. Projects will range from engine safety, production stoppage, new/repair technology development, cost reduction, etc. where the engineer will understand customer requirements and execute development programs to meet and exceed business needs. The candidate will collaborate with other internal engineering disciplines, engineering management and manufacturing customers as part of an Integrated Product Team to ensure the successful transition and implementation of technology into Pratt & Whitney’s products. The candidate is expected to be proficient in, or able to attain proficiency in, the development of advanced Thermal and Environmental Barrier Coating (TBC/EBC) chemistries and establishment of process/property relationships of advanced coating systems. The candidate is expected to be proficient in application processes such as diffusion process, Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD), thermal spraying, slurry, and plating as well as characterization methods (mechanical, physical & metallography) of these materials. The candidate is expected to be proficient in the development or leveraging of integrated computational modeling tools and frameworks (e.g. Thermo-Calc, FactSage, etc.) to effectively solve complex problems. The candidate will also lead elements or entire initiatives to establish next generation coatings with unique capabilities for specific applications. The candidate will interface with the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL), Department of Defense (DOD), Department of Energy (DOE) and NASA customers & lab technical community to seek, secure and execute contracts. The candidate must be able to work effectively in a team environment and be highly motivated. The candidate will have responsibilities that include bench-marking coating/alloy technology and processes, securing funding, managing projects, and updating engineering standard work.
