Lockheed Martin Space is seeking a full-time Mechanical Engineer (Thermal Analysis). In this role you will be supporting the Orion thermal analysis team by performing and owning thermal analyses on spacecraft components, subsystems (Avionics, Propulsion, etc.), and the entire spacecraft thermal system using standardized processes and tools (Thermal Desktop, SINDA/Fluint). Other related responsibilities include providing technical memos and input to data packages to support peer and customer technical presentations; providing review, interpretation, flow-down and implementation of all program requirements; providing thermal engineering support for multi-week TVAC testing in Cape Canaveral, FL or Denver, CO and working interactively with diverse engineering disciplines in a fast-paced environment to develop cost-effective solutions to thermal control requirements which also satisfy producibility objectives defined by Manufacturing and Quality groups.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, of or a related technical field, with 1+ years of related experience and may have a post-secondary degree or training in a related discipline.
  • Fundamental knowledge of heat transfer and thermodynamic principles
  • Experience supporting engineering design, analysis, and verification across the product development lifecycle.
  • Experience with CAD and thermal analysis tools (e.g., Creo, Thermal Desktop, ANSYS, or equivalent).
  • Strong technical writing and presentation abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply analytical thinking to solve thermal performance challenges.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands on experience with Thermal Desktop and SINDA/FLUINT.
  • Experience using Python for scripting, data analysis, or model automation.
  • Familiarity with first order heat transfer calculations.
  • Experience designing spacecraft thermal control systems and hardware.
  • Experience supporting thermal-vacuum testing activities, including test preparation, instrumentation definition, and post-test model correlation.
  • Exposure to integration & test (I&T) operations, such as MLI installation and inspection of passive/active thermal control features.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
