About The Position

The Role Vehicle Thermal Management (VTM) 1D Thermal VDDV engineer will lead vehicle thermal system development for GM’s future and current vehicle programs by leveraging 1D system virtual analysis toolset. VTM-1D VDDV engineer will perform thermal simulations in support of GM’s vehicle programs and provide training/mentorship to other VDDV team members. VTM-1D VDDV engineer will work with SMTs, Thermal components & sub-system suppliers, GM propulsion systems teams, Validation teams, Calibration teams and Software development teams to develop new virtual methods and virtually validate thermal performance for new and future products. This position will be responsible for helping implement strategic technical vision for the team, supporting capability growth, facilitating new standard work development & Training. What You'll Do In support of an “all virtual” development and validation future, VTM-1D thermal VDDV engineer will be instrumental in: Reimagining solutions to meet performance, Development of new methods & techniques, light weighting. Technically demanding engineering assignments where a great deal of independent judgment, creativity and perception are required. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Grow machine learning, optimization, and modularization within the group. Additionally, the “self-starter” VTM-1D Thermal VDDV engineer should be / able to: Action oriented: should not hesitate or be fearful of acting without extensive planning and should see issues as opportunities. Blend standard GM Processes with “Go Fast/Fail Fast”: Needs to achieve maximum speed and efficiency. Prioritizing: Must be able to prioritize tasks and handle multiple projects simultaneously Communication: Comfortable communicating with leadership with minimal preparation Drive for Results: Should enjoy working hard and be willing to work to achieve stretch goals, deadlines, and expectations. Be approachable: Must lead VDDV teams without showing stress, should always be calm, and highly optimistic. Indirect Leadership: Should be able to motivate the team to work hard and help individual team members deal with ambiguity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master of Science in Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in powertrain cooling or AC system analysis and 1D thermal system modelling
  • Thorough knowledge of Thermal systems and its components, Thermal physics fundamentals, design development, performance integration and understanding of virtual model use/criteria/limitations
  • DFSS blackbelt Certification
  • Demonstrated system development and integration experience.
  • Ability to develop a strategy and its successful implementation -proven technical leadership skills.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others and influence peers and leaders.
  • Strong application knowledge of GT-Power, MATLAB, and other system modelling tools

Responsibilities

  • Specifying and balancing requirements, execution and evaluation of designs, development, and implementation of VDDV tools and procedures that support the sizing and development of thermal systems.
  • Driving VDDV connection to product release and performance teams and suppliers to proactively take ownership of “leading the designs.”
  • Interfacing with analysis engineers, product release teams, technical specialists, and suppliers to develop optimal design solutions that meet all thermal performance requirements.
  • Leading modeling and analysis method capability development initiatives, with emphasis on an “all virtual” future
  • Integrating new processes and methods into VDDV execution support for all GM programs
  • Driving consistent application of simulation tools and methods across the entire product portfolio. This includes all global engineering centers.
  • Providing training for new and existing analysis procedures.
  • Seeking out state of the art tools and methods, keep up with industry trends to ensure our team is winning.
  • Being a change agent to move left and to enable hardware reduction initiatives.
  • Communicating status to leadership and escalating issues/roadblocks within the organization, as necessary
  • Traveling as needed
