The Women in Recovery (WIR) Therapist provides direct, gender-specific individual and group counseling, family and relationship counseling services within a day treatment format to participants, with emphasis on recovery from substance abuse, role-modeling, women only groups, trauma, health and wellness, parenting and family reunification. The Therapist maintains and cultivates relationships with external agencies, such as court personnel, ancillary service providers, and referring agencies. WIR is an intensive outpatient alternative for eligible women facing long prison sentences. The Therapist works closely with the criminal justice system and various community partners to ensure WIR program participants receive supervision, substance abuse and mental health treatment, education, workforce readiness training and family reunification services. This program aims to strengthen individuals and whole families, break the cycle of intergenerational incarceration, and help women become productive and responsible citizens. WIR Therapists help women conquer drug addiction, recover from trauma, and acquire essential economic, emotional, and social tools to build successful and productive lives. The program is designed for women dedicated to changing their lives and becoming positive, contributing members of the community. The role operates within an innovative and dynamic environment using a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) model of care, characterized by a team-based approach and whole person care for adults and children with complex mental health and substance use challenges.
