About The Position

Provides clinical services to meet the diverse needs of adult clients and their children who are seeking assistance from the assigned program; conducts pre-assessments screenings, biopsychosocial assessments, individual and group counseling services for shelter residents, parent education counseling, psychological profiles, outreach counseling services, referrals and extensive follow-up to be used in evaluative/research reports. Key Responsibilities: Therapy Responsibilities (60%) Develops, delivers and evaluates all activities related to the therapeutic component of the program utilizing a trauma-informed approach including, but not limited to: individual therapy, group therapy, educational, life skills, and training groups and peer support groups. Collaborates closely with the shelter Case Management Specialists on needs relating to psychological profiles of residents. Assesses clients behavioral health needs, makes treatment recommendations, and links clients with appropriate providers. Develops, revises and implements curriculum for educational and life skills groups. Assists in locating family and peer support. Completes program evaluation and applicable research. Attends weekly staff meetings to enhance overall services for victims and their children. Social Services Responsibilities (20%) Refers, coordinates, and educates clients on other mental health agencies that may support their additional needs. Provides crisis intervention services, as needed. Administrative Responsibilities (10%) Maintains thorough documentation of assessments, services provided and follow-up information for residents. Completes and submits monthly statistics and ensures accuracy of the same; completes program evaluation and applicable research. Liaison Responsibilities (10%) Attends community meetings to maintain awareness of services; services as liaison with community agencies. Collaborates with outside consultants on all research-related issues and materials to provide the most effective and currently available techniques for positive mental health for the residents.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of individual and group therapy techniques and play therapy.
  • Knowledge of child development, psychopathology and parenting skills.
  • Knowledge of psychological disorders DSM-IV.
  • Knowledge of effective and efficient methods for organizing and maintaining records and ability to perform the same.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention skills.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain effective relationships with a diverse group of people and remain sensitive to their concerns.
  • Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain reports in an accurate, complete, and timely manner.
  • Ability to work independently and with limited supervision.
  • Ability to lead/facilitate psycho-educational support groups.
  • Ability to build rapport and develop trust with children and adults.
  • Ability to be sensitive to the needs of diverse client populations.
  • Ability to formulate treatment plans.
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or other related field, with a strong preference for victim-oriented counseling abilities.
  • Two years of appropriate clinically supervised, post-degree work experience in categories such as cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy and diagnostic assessment, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • LMSW or LCSW, LPC, LMFT
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Incumbent is required to maintain their own certificate of insurance for private consultations.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain within established timeframe)
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively.
  • Ability to be available 24 hours a day to provide suicide assessments as requested from direct care staff when a client is in crisis.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and intense situations.
  • Ability to apply discretion and independent judgment and exercise confidentiality.
  • Ability to drive a vehicle safely.
  • Ability and willingness to conduct all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism.
