Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work or related degree is required.
  • Therapists are required to hold active and unencumbered counselor or social work license under the Ohio CSWMFT Board.
  • Heart Saver and First Aid certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Computer skills sufficient to learn and utilize the electronic medical record are a mandatory requirement for all direct service staff and supervisory staff.
  • Must possess a valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operator's license and be insurable under Firelands' auto policy.
  • Employee must provide proof of personal automobile liability insurance coverage upon request.
  • Sensitive to the cultural needs of the individual and/or family served.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a therapeutic demeanor that positively contributes to the maintenance of a healthy work environment for patients, team members and visitors.
  • Provides group services daily utilizing materials that reflect the needs of those served. Actively works to engage participation from patients.
  • Maintains documentation according to guidelines including, but not limited to, completion of psychosocial assessments within 24 hours of admission and completing all individual and/or family progress notes by the end of each work day.
  • Collaborates with team members to ensure individual interventions are provided to those who require more than group services.
  • Encourages patients to permit contact with family members and other natural support persons in order to engage them in family sessions designed to provide education, facilitate understanding of behavioral health disorders and promotion of family support.
  • Utilizes evidenced-based practices such as trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy and interventions for persons with dual diagnosis of mental health and drug/alcohol disorders.
  • Provides crisis support on the unit to help intervene when patients are experiencing acute emotional distress including post-vention activities following a significant incident.
  • Collaborates with Outpatient Behavioral Health (OPBH) including alerting outpatient team members to critical information to help promote continuity of care and prevention of readmissions.
  • Participates in wraparound meetings on the unit including initiating meetings when a higher level of care coordination is needed between inpatient and outpatient services.
  • Provides emotional support to patients and/or family members in the ED in critical situations and if staffing permits.
  • Collaborates with team members to cover tasks as needed and to coordinate use of paid time off in a manner that ensures there is sufficient coverage for the unit.
  • Provides education and advocacy when needed to promote awareness of behavioral health issues and decrease stigma.
  • Interfaces with referral sources as needed.
  • Actively participates in and promotes patient satisfaction, safety initiatives, and quality measures.
  • Regularly demonstrates the ability to serve patients of all ages and of all cultural backgrounds in the routine performance of duties.
  • Flexible schedule that includes the ability to serve in a rotation with other therapists for weekend and holiday coverage as needed.
  • Ability to competently utilize IPBH and OPBH medical records as appropriate to role.
