About The Position

Therapeutic Respite Workers are responsible for the direct provision of therapeutic respite. Must effectively contribute to the attainment of Family and Agency objectives, and effectively implement services in a manner consistent with the standards, policy, procedures and overall mission of the Therapeutic Respite Program. -Cranston, Barrington

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must successfully pass BCI and CANTS Screening.
  • Has no legal obligations to support the child, nor is a member of the child’s household.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and must meet Agency expectations regarding driving record, vehicle registration, inspection, and insurance in all cases where transportation is part of the service agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Participate and attest to the completion of Agency provided training on employee responsibilities.
  • Implement the child’s Respite Service and Safety Plan in the home in community settings as directed in the document, and as supervised by family.
  • Maintain active communication with the family supervisor.
  • Protect the health and safety of the child, family and self.
  • Be respectful of the personal property of the child and family.
  • Dress in proper attire in accordance with agency policy and as appropriate for the provision of Therapeutic Respite Services.
  • Obtain specific permission from the family supervisor prior to transporting the child.
  • Be knowledgeable and comply with DCYF regulations regarding the mandatory reporting of suspected child abuse.
  • Agree to maintain confidentiality for all DHS beneficiaries or clients in accordance with all State and Federal laws and sign and Acknowledgement of Confidentiality.
  • Refrain from tasks not delineated in the Respite Service and Safety Plan (e.g. housekeeping, cooking, taking responsibility for monitoring and/or caring for other children or household members).
  • Notify family and Respite Coordinator immediately when unable to fulfill previously scheduled services.
  • Direct job concerns first to the family supervisor, and then to the Respite Coordinator in cases of non-resolution.
