About The Position

The main purpose of this position is to plan, conduct, and evaluate all assigned Therapeutic Recreation Activities based upon assessment and identified treatment goals and objectives for the psychiatric patients of the Eastern Shore Hospital Center. This position will also serve as an active member on an assigned interdisciplinary treatment team, to complete all required documentation, to supervise Activity Therapy Associates and to perform all general duties which are pertinent to the operation of the Rehabilitation Services/Activity Therapy Department.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in therapeutic recreation or recreation with a major in therapeutic recreation from an accredited college or university.
  • Two years of experience performing therapeutic recreation in the treatment of mentally ill, aged, physically ill, or physically disabled patients or developmentally disabled clients.
  • Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
  • Employees in some positions in this classification may be required to operate vehicles which require a specific motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
  • Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete cardiopulmonary resuscitation training and maintain current certification.
  • Employees in this classification at facilities with a swimming pool may be required to obtain Red Cross instruction and certification in Life Saving and Water Safety prior to appointment.
  • Employees in this classification are subject to call-in and, therefore, will be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suites (Google Drive, Docs and Sheets)
  • Experience demonstrating knowledge of forensics, co-occurring, age specific and cultural issues of patients as they may impact on patients' treatment planning
  • Experience writing protocols and lesson plans for each assigned group-according to procedures
