The Recreational Therapist is responsible for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of therapeutic recreation and leisure programs for patients. This position is also responsible for assisting in the development of community integration program. In the provision of these services, the recreational therapist will consult and collaborate with other members of the interdisciplinary team. The Recreational Therapist helps to identify community partners to ensure growth and development of recreational and community integration program to improve patient's lives during and after rehabilitation. This position reports directly to the Supervisor/Manager of Rehabilitation Therapies. The incumbent must provide optimal patient care through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of adult and geriatric patients and families. This position conducts evaluations, and develops an appropriate therapeutic recreation plan of care from admission through time of discharge from the facility. At times, this position may be asked to participate in program development and outcome measurements in the clinical setting. In addition, this position may function as the designee for the Therapy Supervisor/Manager. This position does provide patient care. This position requires that the incumbent drive a facility vehicle with patients and staff as passengers for community outing events.
