Come join our awesome team as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist at Senior CommUnity Care of Colorado PACE, Eckert. Senior CommUnity Care of Colorado PACE is part of Volunteers of America National Services which serves as the Housing and Healthcare subsidiary of the Volunteers of America parent organization. The Therapeutic Recreation Specialist is responsible for the recreational assessment of participants, development of a plan of care designed to meet the participant's needs and coordination with other staff, oversight of care planned interventions, management of day center programming and task oversight of activities aides.

  • Functions as an engaged member of the SCCCO Interdisciplinary Team (IDT).
  • Maintains regular attendance at and participates in IDT meetings; communicates participant changes and collaborates on plan of care decisions with the IDT.
  • Conducts an in-person initial comprehensive recreational assessment.
  • Coordinates with the Interdisciplinary Team to develop a comprehensive plan of care for each participant enrolled in SCCCO.
  • Conducts in-person re-assessments as needed; reassessments may be required semi-annually, when there is a change of condition/status, or when triggered by the Care Team or IDT.
  • Manages and develops supportive social, therapeutic, spiritual, cognitive, physical, and recreational programming in the SCC Day Centers.
  • Ensures incorporation of care planned interventions into the Day Center programming.
  • Provides skilled one-to-one therapeutic recreation interventions as indicated by the plan of care.
  • Advises and supports incorporation of therapeutic recreation interventions into homecare services.
  • Leads and/or assists in large groups, small groups, and individual therapeutic interventions or activities.
  • Maintains participants' medical record and fulfills Senior CommUnity Care charting and reporting requirements.
  • Provides leisure education to participants and caregivers for activity modification, use of adaptive equipment, and activity skill development.
  • Provides oversight and coordinates implementation of outings and outdoor recreation events/programming.
  • Encourages participant involvement in recreation opportunities and provides necessary support to participants.
  • Works cooperatively with other staff and departments to meet Senior CommUnity Care participants' needs.
  • Provides ongoing education/communication to participants in one-to-one settings, group settings, and participant councils.
  • Provides task oversight of Activity Aides to ensure successful facilitation of day center programming.
  • Maintains and consistently demonstrates high customer service.
  • Participates in continuing education classes and any required staff and training meetings.
  • Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or similar field. May consider equivalent experience in lieu of degree.
  • Must have one year's experience working with the frail or elderly population.
  • Three (3) years' experience providing therapeutic programming to frail or elderly population preferred.
  • Must have medical clearance for communicable diseases and up-to-date immunizations before having direct participant contact.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, proof of insurance and have means of transportation.
  • Knowledge of the principles' practices, standards and techniques of the provision of therapeutic and/or recreational activities.
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with participants, co-workers, medical staff and the public.
  • Ability to observe participant behaviors and report observations to appropriate staff.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
