About The Position

This position is responsible for the organization and leadership of a variety of recreation activities including, but not limited to programs for children and adults with disabilities and inclusion support.

Essential Functions: These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position.
Organizes, promotes, teaches, adapts and conducts a variety of recreation activities, such as arts and crafts, sports and games, music, dance, drama, nature study, and special events.
Assists in organizing, promoting and directing tournaments, shows, socials exhibits, festivals and special events.
Supervises an assigned functional area of the center, such as gymnasium, athletic field, game room, crafts room, etc.
Coordinates and assists in conducting organizational and county wide events.
Plans a variety of activities catering to different age groups with disabilities and varying degrees of participant skills.
Additional Duties:
Employees in this classification may be expected to perform any related duties as required by proper authority.

Requirements

• Basic knowledge of disabling conditions, adaptation techniques and behavior management.
• Knowledge of principles, techniques, methods, supplies and equipment applicable to recreation and social programs for persons with disabilities.
• Knowledge of good public relations practices and principles.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to lead group games and activities.
• Ability to communicate effectively with children, adults, parents and other staff members.
• Ability to maintain records and create reports.
• Ability to supervise and develop subordinates and volunteers work.
• Ability to present ideas and recommendations clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to plan creative, appropriate activities for all ages.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, adults, parents and children.
• Ability to run, walk, or navigate by using assistive devises.
• Ability to lift heavy objects including sports equipment.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Six months of related experience, including some experience working with children and adults with disabling conditions of all ages.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience;
• Valid Georgia driver’s license or State Identity card

Nice To Haves

• First Aid and CPR certification preferred
