About The Position

It is our honor and privilege to provide comfort and care to Ohio's heroes - wartime veterans from all across the state and all branches of service. The Ohio Veterans Homes, part of Ohio Department of Veterans Services, are trauma informed care long-term care focused on providing excellent care to Ohio's veterans. The Veteran Homes provide direct nursing home care at facilities in Sandusky and Georgetown as well as domiciliary living to qualified veterans in Sandusky. We aim to maintain an inclusive work environment and commit ourselves to develop talented, inclusive, and dedicated employees. A Therapeutic Program Worker (TPW) is a direct care worker that helps residents with daily living skills and assists them with needs. Support given to the individual will vary based on each person's needs and capabilities.

Requirements

  • Current STNA/CNA certification or listed on the Ohio Nurse Aide Registry
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • No experience required
  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary.
  • In Department of Developmental Disabilities, must also possess a high school diploma or a certificate of high school equivalence pursuant to Chapter 5123:2-3-01(F) (1) (c).
  • For positions that require operation of motor vehicle to transport consumers to recreational, educational &/or occupational activities, a valid driver's license is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with eating, bathing, toileting, personal hygiene, oral hygiene, dressing, grooming, communications, assist with feeding.
  • Transport and attends activities or programs with residents
  • Complete various daily, monthly, and other required documentation
  • Observe & report any changes in symptoms, behaviors, accidents, incidents or injuries to charge nurse
  • Perform light housekeeping duties in the living areas
  • Applies safety & infection control measures
  • Assists with redirecting unsafe actions to bring about positive outcomes
  • Assist nursing personnel with admissions, discharge, & transfer of residents

Benefits

  • Starting Hourly Pay: $22.60 per hour ($47,008 annually)
  • 1st Raise in 6 Months: increase to $22.96 per hour ($47,757 annually)
  • $500 bonus after 120 days and another $500 bonus after one year
  • Multiple pay increases over your first 5 years of service, with an end salary of $25.77 per hour ($53,602 annually for first shift employees)
  • Shift differential pay for 2nd & 3rd shift
