About The Position

The Theatre Key Grip is an employee of Bellevue Convention Center Authority and Meydenbauer Center represented under a collective bargaining agreement with IATSE Local 15. The Theatre Key Grip is responsible for assisting with the setup, operations and maintenance of the theatre technical systems and equipment for Meydenbauer Center Theatre events. This person works within any assigned department (i.e., lights, sound, fly, deck, etc) under the supervision of that department’s Head Craftsperson and the On-Site Supervisor and, depending on experience and skill level, may be called upon to substitute in a lead lights, audio or fly/deck role.

  • High guest satisfaction. Meydenbauer Center Theatre expects ALL employees to perform their duties with a hospitality and customer-service focus.
  • Works well in a team but can also perform tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Able to react quickly to changing and competing needs while ensuring the safety of personnel and equipment.
  • Basic math skills (rigging, lighting and sound calculations)
  • Minimum of two years of professional or college level production experience in operation and maintenance of theatre technical systems involving audio, lighting, rigging and production applications.
  • Other equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the quality and completion of technical theatre tasks during Meydenbauer Center Theatre events, as needed and assigned.
  • Assists with completing the audio, lighting, fly and any stage systems set up in preparation for client arrival and may be called upon to assist and supervise the use of such systems by qualified client staff.
  • Participates in the inventory and maintenance program for the theatre, if requested.
  • Maintains clean, neat, and organized work and storage areas.
  • Participates in special projects that involve building or assembling equipment.
  • Participates in the ongoing development of standard operating procedures for the theatre.
  • May be cross trained to stand in as substitute Head Craftsperson positions, based on qualifications, past training, talent, interest and need. Will be paid at Head Craftsperson rate when filling in for these positions.
