About The Position

This position is responsible for the overall practical and creative interpretation of a text, taking into account the budgetary and physical constraints of production. Theatre Directors work closely with the creative and production teams, actors, performers, and producers to create a performance that connects with the audience. Theatre Directors must be able to coordinate effectively across a wide range of disciplines, while keeping a clear artistic vision. Demonstrates commitment to the District's Mission, Vision, and Guiding Principles. Pay & Schedule: $25.00 - $29.00 Per Hour This is a part-time, non-exempt position. This position will run from June 8 - July 3, Monday - Friday. Camp is from 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM, and the Music Director can estimate working approximately 25 hours a week. Tech week is June 29 - July 3 and the Music Director will work closer to 40 hours that week, and need to attend both performances on July 2 and 3 at 7:00 PM. Anticipated Start Date: June 2nd

Requirements

  • Degree from a four-year college or university in Theatre, Music, or Dance, or a similar field; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the above knowledge, ability and skills.
  • Stage theatrical productions
  • Convey theatrical concepts to staff, cast, and crew
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Work independently and efficiently
  • Work with children and adults
  • Interact with a community of artists and participants
  • Theatre and/or Musical Theatre Direction education and practice
  • Current development and trends in the field of performing arts
  • Basic first aid and safety procedures and standards

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the overall creative approach to production
  • Attends auditions and casts the production
  • Attends all rehearsals, scheduled shows, and allocates time for additional performances as appropriate
  • Support additional performance needs as necessary, such as front-of-house and backstage duties
  • Plans the rehearsals for areas of responsibility
  • Interprets the script
  • Guides actors in their work during the production
  • Attends production meetings to coordinate efforts with other members of the production team.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Collaboration with designers and the stage manager
  • Collaborates with internal and external customers in a positive manner.
  • Follows safe work practices.
