Hixson Middle School is a 6-8 school located in Hixson, TN, just north of Chattanooga. At Hixson Middle, we implement STEM practices aligned with the Tennessee STEM School Designation process, which includes project and problem-based learning and community partnerships. Our campus includes an eLab and an outdoor classroom. If you enjoy progressive education, innovation, and collaboration, then this is the school for you. Hixson Middle is a Community School with ROAR, an afterschool program that supports students in academic and social-emotional development. We focus on the whole student: socially, emotionally, and academically. Our teachers enjoy a supportive climate, including our New Teacher Academy and mentor program. Our teachers plan with their content partner at least twice a week and each grade level has two teams. Our school has two coaches (math/science and literacy/social studies) who provide professional development and support for teachers. We are looking for teachers who have the ability to develop strong relationships with a diverse group of students, parents, and staff. Our teachers are strong collaborators who seek out opportunities to work with others. We value someone who is a team player and has a “can do” attitude. We want educators who have a strong belief that all students have the capability to achieve and who also maintain a flexible, solution-focused attitude during times of frustration. Being competent in content knowledge is crucial, but we also are looking for teachers who identify as lifelong learners.
