About The Position

The High School Theater Teacher & Drama Coach is responsible for providing engaging instruction in theater arts during two class periods daily, while also leading and directing the school’s theatrical productions, including the annual musical and drama performances. This position fosters student creativity, collaboration, performance skills, and appreciation for the performing arts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Theater, Drama, Education, or related field (preferred)
  • Valid teaching license (preferred)
  • Experience in theater production and directing (school or community level)
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and occasional weekends
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

  • Teach two periods of theater arts classes daily (e.g., Acting, Stagecraft, Theater Appreciation, or related courses)
  • Develop and implement curriculum aligned with state and district standards
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment
  • Assess and evaluate student performance and provide timely feedback
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress
  • Serve as director for the school musical production
  • Serve as drama coach for additional theatrical performances (e.g., plays, one-act competitions, showcases)
  • Select appropriate scripts and productions that align with school values and student abilities
  • Organize and conduct auditions, rehearsals, and performances
  • Oversee all aspects of production, including acting, staging, blocking, and interpretation
  • Collaborate with staff and students on technical elements (set design, lighting, sound, costumes, props)
  • Manage production timelines, budgets, and resources
  • Supervise students during rehearsals and performances, including after-school hours
  • Promote student participation in theater programs
  • Build a positive and inclusive theater culture within the school
  • Collaborate with other teachers, administration, and community members
  • Coordinate with administration on scheduling, facilities use, and event planning
  • Support school events and assemblies as needed
