About The Position

Opening in September 2026, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is dedicated to illustrated storytelling. Founded by George Lucas and Mellody Hobson, the museum’s collection features works by artists including Norman Rockwell, Kadir Nelson, Jessie Willcox Smith, N. C. Wyeth, Beatrix Potter, Judith F. Baca, Frida Kahlo, and Maxfield Parrish; as well as comic art legends such as Winsor McCay, Jack Kirby, Frank Frazetta, Alison Bechdel, Chris Ware, and R. Crumb; and photographers Gordon Parks, Henri Cartier-Bresson, and Dorothea Lange. The Museum also houses the Lucas Archives, containing models, props, concept art, and costumes from Lucas’s filmmaking career. Designed by Ma Yansong of MAD with a landscape by Mia Lehrer of Studio-MLA, the Museum is in Exposition Park, Los Angeles, on an 11-acre campus that includes new green space and a 300,000-square-foot building with galleries, two theaters, a library, restaurant, café, retail store, and community spaces. POSITION SUMMARY The Theater Projectionist will be responsible for all assigned technical and projection aspects for two state-of-the-art theaters at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. You will ensure the highest level of technical precision across all projected media formats and event types, providing museum guests and clients with exceptional presentation experience. The Theater Projectionist will contribute to the enjoyment and experience of our visitors and may work closely with the Visitor Services team to ensure that the theater spaces are impeccably clean. This position may be public facing and in doing so shall engage visitors with excellent customer service. The Theater Projectionist will report to Director, Visitor Services and is available as either a part-time or full-time position.

Requirements

  • B.A. in Theater Design, Projection Design, Video Engineering, Media Systems or Theatrical Technology preferred or equivalent experience
  • Proven experience working with ultra-high contrast lenses, 35mm, digital cinema projector and Dolby integrated Media Server
  • Well-versed with digital projectors, DCI files, Dolby Audio
  • Prior role at an organization that modeled a high degree of customer service

Responsibilities

  • Assist with 35 mm and digital cinema projector prep and inspection to ensure highest quality
  • Build and test DCI playlists that include multiple files and cues
  • Meet all operational and technical challenges in two state-of-the-art theaters
  • During screenings, monitor image and sound quality/volume for exceptional guest experience
  • Communicate effectively with I.T./ Audio Visual and Visitor Services teams
  • Work well independently and as part of a team as you perform the duties of this role
  • Adapt with diplomacy to changing needs of assigned shows and tasks
  • Uphold the museum’s standards for exhibition, programming, and customer service excellence
