About The Position

The Nest Site Associate is responsible for general oversight of the property, cleanliness, safety, and maintenance. The Nest Site Associate works closely with each resident/family to provide guidance and coaching on long-term daily living skills, and other identified needs. Together, the team prepares and supports our youth for successful independent living and self-sufficiency.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of experience in homeless services, counseling, or related experience; or in place of a degree.
  • Familiarity with Los Angeles social service resources and the ability to creatively problem-solve member issues.
  • Strong written documentation skills required.
  • Ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, and sexual orientations in a multicultural environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, professional demeanor, sound judgment, and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to collaboratively work in community settings, but with the capacity to work independently.
  • High level of personal accountability for the quality and impact of work.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Drive, and Dropbox.
  • All SPY employees are mandated reporters and are legally required to report any reasonable suspicion of child, elder, or dependent adult abuse or neglect.
  • Effective August 9, 2021, the State Health Officer has mandated that all workers, paid or unpaid, in homeless services organizations must provide proof of vaccination. If eligible for a booster shot, proof of booster is also required.
  • Applicants are required to provide a copy of their valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.
  • Job offers are contingent upon a satisfactory driving record.
  • For driver positions, driving is an essential job function and cannot be reasonably accommodated; employment may be discontinued.

Nice To Haves

  • B.A. or B.S. in Psychology, Sociology, or a related field is preferred.
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience (preferably with transitional-aged youth) is preferred.
  • Proficiency with electronic record systems and/or Clarity is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • The Nest Site Associate meets with each youth on-site weekly to conduct room, developmental, and safety checks. While also hosting housing meetings to provide updates and mediations to other residents in the home.
  • Facilitate regular room check sessions with youth, incorporating harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and housing-first approaches, including needs assessments, psychoeducation, advocacy, and referrals.
  • Monitor and document resident safety, child well-being, and overall progress through structured tools and ongoing observation.
  • Provide crisis intervention, de-escalation, mediation, and conflict resolution support as needed.
  • Build rapport with residents using a trauma-informed, youth-centered approach while promoting accountability and restorative practices.
  • Coordinate and facilitate life-skills workshops, programming, youth meetings, and community-building activities.
  • Support all aspects of program operations, including intakes, move-ins, exits, and preparation of resident spaces and documentation.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including progress notes, incident reports, program logs, and data entry in HMIS and internal trackers.
  • Oversee daily site operations, ensuring safety, cleanliness, organization, and adherence to house expectations.
  • Conduct routine house inspections and manage inventory of supplies, including food, cleaning items, and program materials.
  • Coordinate food resources, including meal support and pantry access for residents.
  • Maintain and update community resources, provide referrals, and coordinate services with external partners and volunteers.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and departments to ensure continuity of care and effective service delivery.
  • Schedule and support transportation for residents to appointments, services, and activities; transport residents as authorized.
  • Participate in internal and external meetings, committees, trainings, and emergency preparedness activities (e.g., drills).
  • Assist with program reporting, outcome tracking, and data collection requirements.
  • Perform site-related errands (e.g., supply pick-ups) and support overall program needs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned in alignment with program and organizational needs, including the ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
