The Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) position involves providing essential direct and indirect care to residents under the supervision of licensed nursing personnel. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of the principles of growth and development across the lifespan, enabling the CNA to assess and interpret data reflective of each patient's status. This position is critical in ensuring that the care provided is appropriate to the age-specific needs of the adult and geriatric patient groups. The CNA must demonstrate the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfill the responsibilities outlined in the plan of care, ensuring that residents receive the highest quality of care in a safe and comfortable environment. The CNA will be responsible for meeting residents' Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) needs, which include hygiene, grooming, dressing, incontinence and catheter care, elimination and toileting needs, turning and positioning, and skin care. Documentation of care provided must be completed per protocol. Additionally, the CNA will maintain the residents' environment and safety, responding promptly to call lights and alarms, ensuring cleanliness, and monitoring for any malfunctioning equipment. The role also includes meeting residents' nutritional needs, which involves meal delivery, tray preparation, and assisting with feeding while honoring residents' preferences and choices. Furthermore, the CNA will assist with residents' rehabilitative needs, including range of motion exercises, ambulation, transfers, and the proper use of assistive devices. It is essential for the CNA to report any changes in residents' physical, emotional, or psychosocial status to the Charge Nurse promptly. The position entails occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens, and tasks may involve potential contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues. The CNA must be committed to providing compassionate care while adhering to all policies and procedures.
