About The Position

We are seeking a Textiles Engineer to drive the development of textiles, yarns and related softgoods components to meet functional, cosmetic and reliability requirements for our range of wearable products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Textile Engineering, Fashion Design, Softgoods, or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience in textiles and softgoods development. Must include experience shipping mass production products (ex: consumer electronics, apparel, footwear)
  • Knowledge of textile construction and yarn structures
  • Working understanding of textile machinery categories and functions
  • Familiarity with secondary textile processing and decoration techniques
  • Experience working with global factories and mills
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent projects
  • Experience working closely with design partners (ID, CMF)
  • Experience in communicating effectively with a broad range of stakeholders, collaborators and clients, at different levels

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of experience in textiles and softgoods development
  • Experience with a Tier 1 supply chain in consumer electronics
  • 6+ months specifically working with consumer electronics

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Product Design Engineers, Industrial Design and CMF teams to source or develop textiles and related softgoods components that meet functional, cosmetic and reliability targets
  • Proactively provide material suggestions to design teams based on an understanding of design intent and emerging trends
  • Build presentations and reports to aggregate test results and qualitative attributes, and present them in order to explain and recommend potential development directions to cross functional partners while managing their expectations
  • Develop and maintain a library of textile materials, including technical specifications and testing data
  • Communicate technical guidance and priorities to vendors, and serve as a key point of contact for vendors throughout the product development process while maintaining detailed records of all communications
  • Manage version control of development textiles throughout the product development process, and ensure that all cross-functional partners have access to the most up-to-date information
  • Design and execute testing to satisfy cross-functional partner teams requirements, and facilitate down selection of textile materials
  • Coordinate material testing both in-house and with third-party partners, and maintain detailed records of all testing results
  • Source new vendors to expand our development partners in the US, East Asia and worldwide
  • Serve as a point of contact for the engineering and product development teams, and convert their requests into actionable programs through conversations
