About The Position

This position has multiple tasks where you might be doing one or all of them. In this position you could be inspecting and sorting all clothing, textiles, and other soft goods to determine salability. Correctly hang good quality clothes on proper hangers. Properly sort all Rack items for unit pricing, for sale in the store. Attach the proper colored tags to all "ready for sale" hanging clothes. You will train others to perform these tasks. The position reports to the Production Manager or Production Assistant who evaluates performance annually. Trainer Responsibilities: Ensure new teammates are fully and properly indoctrinated using the "Buddy System"--welcome and befriend. Show them: a) The proper way to sort/inspect (process) donations; (i.e. items 1 through 8 above). b) Where the lockers and coat racks are located and how to swipe in, etc. c) The daily routine--break periods and areas, the cafeteria schedule, procedures, rules--and have lunch with them, etc. d) Emergency procedures, exits, and "safe areas" for violent weather, etc. Follow up. Be a committed mentor. Nurture the continuous development and improvement of teammates. Work with experienced sorters (when needed) for observation and “refresher” training and/or to help them reach their personal quotas. Essential Job Functions: Knows and understands the Goodwill Mission: “Strengthen communities by empowering individuals and families through education, training and job placement.” Inspect all soft goods from hampers, including household linens as well as infants’, girls’, boys’, men’s, and women’s clothing, looking for spots, holes, ripped seams, etc. Determine if item is saleable in the store or needs to be sent to salvage sales; apply Quality Control guidelines. Sort for seasonal clothing and current style. Sort hanging clothes from household linens and items for bin pricing. Place sorted items on correct tables. Deliver all jewelry items to the jewelry box. Place household wares items in wares basket for return to Wares Department. Empty trash into trash cart, as necessary. Be a role model by setting a very positive example regarding attitude, attendance, punctuality, attire, work habits, and personal productivity. Good people skills. Communicate well with teammates and clients. Be able to learn jobs and train others to do those jobs. Be flexible, versatile, and be able to move to different jobs quickly. Report unacceptable sorting by co-workers to supervisor. Periodically check Bin and Rack clothing to ensure they are properly tagged and sellable merchandise; (i.e. acceptable quality). With a "critical eye" and an open mind, identify and explore areas and processes for possible improvement. Discuss with teammates and make recommendations to supervisor. Demonstrated leadership ability. Other tasks as assigned by Supervisor. Cooperate with and support Team Leader and Production Assistant.

Requirements

  • Some familiarity with current clothing styles, brand names, materials, etc.
  • Ability to make quick correct decisions
  • Ability to move full carts of clothing
  • Full use of hands and arms
  • Ability to work/communicate well with teammates and clients
  • Good people skills
  • Ability to correctly and clearly record numbers of garments prepared for shipment to each store
  • Ability to move full Z-racks/polycarts
  • Ability to differentiate between categories for different priced clothes
  • Ability to mark spot where you left off, and finish when clothes are ready to move again
  • Ability to quickly identify substandard garments and remove them from processing
  • Ability to use a tagging gun and tag garments properly (e.g. on seams)
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Ability to stand and walk 8 hours per day
  • Ability to reach and move hung clothes from rail to rail
  • Ability to distinguish colors
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach and lift 10 to 15 lb. boxes
