Test Technician
About The Position
General Definition: Responsible for the collection and sealing of horse urine samples in accordance with chain of custody procedures and adhering to test barn operational procedures. The Test Barn Technicians may be responsible for verifying whip welts, cuts, etc. on horses as assigned. Essential Job Functions: Shall, in accordance with commission standard operating procedures procure a urine sample of each horse entering the test barn for testing. Responsible for verifying the tattoo/freeze brand of each horse entering the test barn. Responsible for verifying whip welts, cuts, etc. on horses as assigned. Maintain the test barn in a clean and orderly fashion. Responsible for taking urine and blood samples from horses designated by the stewards or commission Responsible for accurately maintaining records Responsible for keeping Test Barn and horse barns clean and orderly between races Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college/technical; and 2 years related experience and/or training; or combination.
- Must be knowledgeable of the Rules of Racing.
- Able to work at a fast pace in often crowded/noisy environment
- Excellent customer service/communication skills
- Must meet professional appearance standards as prescribed by company policy.
- Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Ability to read and communicate verbally in English.
- Written communication skills in English may also be required.
- Must be able to pass a background check and receive a license or permit from any Regulatory Agency, if applicable to perform the essential job functions
- Texas Racing Commission License (TXRC)
- Strength: Medium to Heavy workload
- Stand, sit and walk consistently
- Will be required to lift up to or over 20lbs or exert occasionally over 100lbs
- Will consistently be required to touch, feel, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, reach
- Will use office equipment
- Driving motor vehicles as needed
- Frequently speak and articulate
- Noise levels will be varied from moderate to heavy machinery
- Exposure to weather and extreme elements
- Minimal exposure in close proximity to horses

- Ability to speak and understand Spanish is an asset.
