About The Position

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) seeks a Test Systems Design Engineer for Special Test Equipment (STE) on our Space Electronics team located in El Segundo, CA. This team works on space-grade electronics, from power and digital subsystems to RF/mixed signal systems and is responsible for cradle-to-grave design, build, validation, and support to ensure flight products and systems perform as intended in extreme operating environments. You will contribute to projects ranging from cutting-edge satellite communication systems to advanced exploration ventures. Your expertise will have a direct impact on crucial missions, such as the development of the Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) system - a high capacity satellite communications system for the United States Department of Defense (DoD); the X-37B - an unmanned, reusable spaceplane; the CST-100 Starliner - a spacecraft designed to transport crew to the International Space Station and private space stations of the future, and many more space-based missions!

Requirements

• 5+ years of related work experience.
• Experience in digital, power, or RF Test Systems.
• Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.

Nice To Haves

• Software coding experience using LabView, Test Stand, C/C#, Python, FPGA Verilog/VHDL, or MATLAB Signal, MATLAB Simulink.
• Experience using Electrical Design Automation (EDA) Tools such as OrCAD, Mentor Graphics, Altium, PSpice.
• Knowledge and experience in control, analog, digital, or power supply circuit design.
• Experience designing RF/Mixed Signal circuits and systems.
• Proficiency in RF/Mixed Signal simulation software like Keysight's Advanced Design System (ADS).
• Familiarity with RF/Mixed Signal Test Equipment.
• Knowledge of RF/Mixed Signal Communication Protocols.
• Experience in designing power and digital circuits.
• Familiarity with Power/Digital simulation software.
• Experience with power and digital test equipment.
• Knowledge of power systems and digital communication protocols.
• Experience in power and thermal analysis.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop state-of-the-art Special Test Equipment (STE) for power and digital, RF and mixed signal systems used in space-based applications.
• Define the STE architecture and perform hands-on development.
• Conduct detailed circuit design for both power and digital and RF and mixed signal subsystems.
• Perform detailed modeling and analysis of the designed circuits and overall test system to predict their behavior and performance.
• Utilize simulation tools like SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink, and Advanced Design System (ADS).
• Design and gather data for technical performance measures.
• Test power supplies under different load conditions, test digital circuit logic under different input conditions, and test RF circuit performance at different frequencies.
• Use tools like C#, Python, LabVIEW, TestStand, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, and vector signal analyzers to design automated tests for spacecraft modules, slices, and units.
• Document designs, test procedures, and analysis results and track using version control systems like SVN.
• Provide technical support during production and testing of space-qualified electronics.
• Troubleshoot anomalies occurring during the integration and test of a test system or flight unit.
• Make recommendations for the procurement of test equipment.
• Lead STE design reviews to ensure adherence to development processes.
• Support the preparation of proposals and bids for new test system projects.
• Mentor and guide team members, fostering an environment of learning and growth.
