About The Position

We are seeking a Test Lab Engineer to own and operate our internal product test lab. This role is critical to ensuring product performance, quality, and compliance across our portfolio of home and building products. The Test Lab Engineer will be responsible for organizing lab operations, executing product testing (prototypes and production samples), maintaining quality data, and supporting engineering and product development teams with reliable, repeatable test results. The Test Lab Engineer will also lead quality reporting and voice of customer issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering preferred) or equivalent technical experience.
  • 3–7+ years of experience in a product test lab, quality engineering, or validation role—preferably in building materials, construction products, or home improvement products.
  • Hands-on experience operating and maintaining lab equipment (mechanical test frames, torque testers, environmental chambers, etc.).
  • Familiarity with ASTM, ANSI, ICC, UL, or other relevant test standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and data organization skills.
  • Ability to work independently while supporting multiple engineering projects.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for documenting and presenting test results.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience testing fasteners, anchors, hardware, building envelope products, or structural components.
  • Experience developing test fixtures and custom test setups.
  • Exposure to quality systems (ISO 9001, APQP, PPAP, FMEA).
  • Experience working with overseas suppliers and third-party test labs.

Responsibilities

  • Establish, organize, and maintain daily operations of the product test lab.
  • Manage test equipment, fixtures, calibration schedules, and safety procedures.
  • Develop and document standard test methods, procedures, and reporting formats.
  • Execute mechanical, structural, environmental, and durability testing on product prototypes and production samples.
  • Support new product development by testing early-stage concepts, design iterations, and validation builds.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis for test failures and collaborate with engineers on corrective actions.
  • Perform competitive benchmarking and comparative testing.
  • Track product performance, quality metrics, and test results over time.
  • Maintain organized test records, reports, and data repositories.
  • Identify trends, recurring issues, and opportunities for product or process improvement.
  • Partner with mechanical engineers, product managers, quality, and manufacturing teams to support product launches and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support field issue investigations and customer-reported quality concerns with lab testing and analysis.
  • Assist with supplier qualification and validation testing as needed.
