About The Position

Moog Military Aircraft has an immediate opening for a Test Equipment Sustainment Engineer to join their team, reporting to the Test Equipment Manager, with an onsite, 9/80 work schedule in Torrance, CA. Moog’s Military Aircraft Group is a global leader in designing primary and secondary flight control actuation systems (FCAS) for military aircraft, including cutting edge aircraft like the F-35 Lightning II and the V280 Valor next generation tiltrotor Aircraft. Headquartered in East Aurora, NY, Moog employs 14,000 employees in 24 countries. The primary function of this role is to ensure continued operation of deployed test equipment in support of the product life cycle. The engineer will work closely with the Assembly and Test Operations customer and a team of Test Equipment Sustainment engineers and technicians, focusing on all aspects of test systems sustainment. These test systems are comprised of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic, electrical, software, and power distribution components.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant Engineering Discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Project Management, Aeronautical, Physics) OR significant experience (10 years or more) performing similar support tasks, including military service.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience within a relevant engineering sector (Aerospace, Automotive, Test Equipment).
  • Proficient in the maintenance and support of equipment solutions for multi-axis, closed loop, servo-hydraulic and electromechanical systems.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and VISIO.
  • Must be able to obtain Security Clearances as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Interdisciplinary engineering experience (Electrical, Mechanical, Hydraulic and Systems).
  • Experience in the aerospace/defense manufacturing industry strongly preferred.
  • Proactive problem solving and resolution skills, with the ability to exercise mature judgement.
  • Understand cultures and local norms associated with work in foreign (to US) locations.
  • Proven ability to work in close cooperation with customers while representing one’s company in a positive light even under difficult situations.
  • Experience in one or more of the following: JIRA, Pirana, NX or LabVIEW is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and complete activities in support of Test Equipment Sustainment at Moog Military Aircraft Group Torrance Operations.
  • Ensure continued operation of deployed test equipment in support of the product life cycle.
  • Work closely with our Assembly and Test Operations customer, and a team of Test Equipment Sustainment engineers and technicians, in all aspects of test systems sustainment.
  • Coordinate with the Test Systems Design and Project/NPI functions with respect to work packages as part of the maintenance, upgrade and sustainment of existing and proposed test equipment.
  • Investigation and resolution of issues creating a stop on production, a quality escape and / or reduced first pass yield.
  • Use of the Test Equipment Maintenance Management System (Pirana AVMS) to log, track and document customer work requests, preventative maintenance activities and other sustainment activities.
  • Maintain the configuration of test equipment deployed for operational use at their facility.
  • Generate, update and formally release Test Equipment Documentation during sustainment activities.
  • Responsible for the update and release of Documentation during maintenance or upgrade activities.
  • Provide Technical Review for Test Equipment and Test Software drawings and documentation in accordance with Moog Processes and Procedures.
  • Provide timely updates on sustainment activities to the Test Equipment Sustainment Site Manager and associated stakeholders.
  • Support procurement of sub-assemblies, services, spares and consumables to support Test Equipment on-going sustainment.
  • Lead activities to manage test equipment obsolescence, identifying opportunities for replacement of capital assets and co-ordination with the Test Equipment Design and Project/ NPI functions in completion of obsolescence work packages.
  • Support the Test Equipment Manager for the coordination of activities for the timely resolution of Corrective Actions, Significant Issues or Non-Conformances raised against Test Equipment systems, components or processes.
  • Support Root Cause investigations into all aspects of the Test Equipment Systems and/or components as required.
  • Ensure all Health & Safety practices are followed and any new issues raised, during any work activities.
  • Write or assist with the completion and review of work related Risk Assessments and adhere to them.
  • Lead and support internal and external Quality Audits on all aspects of deployed test equipment systems.
  • Understand and comply with quality procedures relevant to tasks undertaken.
  • Actively participate in lean activities to improve the function and site operations; this must be a continuous improvement program.
  • Support the documentation of Standard Operations for LOTO on Test Equipment and act as an authorized competent party onsite to perform LOTO activities.
