About The Position

The Test Equipment Engineering Technician supports production operations by maintaining the availability, reliability, and compliance of automated and manual test equipment used in avionics manufacturing and qualification environments. This role is hands-on and focused on restoring test equipment downtime through advanced troubleshooting, repair, calibration, and corrective maintenance of complex test systems, including rack-mounted radio frequency (RF) test equipment and Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) chambers. This position works independently with minimal supervision and serves as a technical resource on the production floor, partnering closely with Test Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and RF Engineering teams to minimize production interruptions and ensure test equipment readiness. This is a hands-on production support role focused on test equipment uptime and reliability.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with 6–8 years of relevant hands-on experience supporting electronic or automated test equipment, or
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in electronics, aerospace technology, engineering technology, or a related technical field with 3–5 years of relevant hands-on experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot complex electronic systems, including RF, digital, analog, and power systems.
  • Proven experience supporting production or manufacturing environments with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and technical work instructions.
  • Hands-on experience repairing or fabricating wire harnesses and cable assemblies.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting test equipment in aerospace, avionics, or other regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with National Instruments TestStand and LabWindows™/CVI™, with emphasis on troubleshooting and debugging existing test software.
  • Experience troubleshooting automated test systems using equivalent test software platforms.
  • IPC Certified (IPC J-STD-001/IPC-A-610/IPC-A-620)
  • Experience working with RF test systems, radios, or RF measurement equipment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document technical findings and actions taken.

Responsibilities

  • Independently troubleshoot and restore downtime to production test equipment, minimizing impact to manufacturing schedules.
  • Diagnose and repair complex test systems, including rack-mounted RF instrumentation, automated test stations, power distribution, and Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) chambers.
  • Perform equipment calibration, verification, and functional checks to ensure test systems meet operational, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Repair, replace, and fabricate wire harnesses, cable assemblies, connectors, and electro-mechanical components used in test equipment.
  • Troubleshoot automated test software issues by reviewing and navigating existing test sequences, primarily using National Instruments TestStand and LabWindows™/CVI™, or equivalent automated test platforms.
  • Identify recurring test equipment or system failures, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions in collaboration with engineering teams.
  • Document troubleshooting activities, repairs, calibration actions, and equipment status in accordance with company procedures and quality requirements.
  • Coordinate with external calibration services, equipment vendors, and internal stakeholders to support timely equipment repair and return to service.
  • Provide technical guidance and informal mentoring to less experienced technicians as needed.
