About The Position

As an Electronics Test Engineer Technician at SMTC, you would be responsible for supporting functional and/or in-circuit test fixtures to include training of test personnel in the use of fixtures as well as supporting the overall test needs of production. Technical resource for production required to have thorough knowledge of all products, subassemblies, hardware and test processes for assigned customers.

Requirements

  • High school Diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • Associates or equivalent in electronics or electrical/electronic technology preferred.
  • Electronics Technicians Association Certification a plus.
  • Experience in the commercial / electronics market is a plus.
  • General instrumentation hardware and software knowledge.
  • Experience with environmental chamber operation and support.
  • Experience with vibration table operation and support.
  • Experience with ATE operation and support.
  • IPC 610 certification a plus.
  • Soldering experience/IPC7711/7721 certification.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, mechanical and assembly drawings.
  • Familiarity with basic circuit analysis techniques (KVL, KCL, Ohm's Law).
  • Capable of applying electronics theory to test and troubleshoot electronics.
  • Familiarity with common electronics testing equipment (DMM, oscilloscope, power supplies).
  • Utilize routine test or diagnostic equipment. Ability to learn and use software tools, with supervision.
  • Familiarity with navigating Windows.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal engineering instructions, including test procedures, with supervision.
  • Receptive to mentoring from peers in technical community.
  • Participates in developing new approaches and techniques to achieve continuous improvement in all work processes.
  • Work independently or in a team environment, with supervision.
  • Self-starter.
  • Strong technical, analytical and critical thinking / reasoning skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility to support production schedule requiring working overtime hours and alternate shift hours.
  • Diagnose issues and document root cause of electronic failures.
  • Perform a variety of technical tasks which require rudimentary understanding of test objectives.
  • Determine rework action for diagnosed failures.
  • Provide Test Engineering support to operations.
  • Work with Test Engineers to support operations.
  • Perform as a member of a technical team utilizing effective communication skills.
  • Provides support to areas such as test, manufacturing or process improvement.
  • Provide support to engineering projects.
  • Perform duties as assigned.
  • Actively participates in continuous improvement activities.
  • Record test result and measurement data as required using an MES, Excel, or other methods.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
