The Test Engineer position at Actalent involves providing onsite vehicle powertrain testing services, focusing on the management, preparation, maintenance, and testing of the customer's validation Vehicle Test Fleet. The role requires hands-on work with vehicles, data acquisition, and problem resolution related to powertrain hardware and software.

  • Interpret test requests from Powertrain & customer engineers and set up functional vehicles including calibration/software flashing and data logger/instrumentation setup.
  • Conduct remote testing and support during Winter and Summer tests, as well as at proving grounds.
  • Innovate data logger techniques, instrumentation, data storage/sharing, and post-processing/analyzing methods as part of the data acquisition team.
  • Resolve Powertrain hardware and software issues on functional vehicles.
  • Document vehicle Powertrain issues in internal tools and systems, and communicate findings to Powertrain engineering.
  • Perform hands-on work with data logger assembly and vehicle instrumentation.
  • Execute other functions as required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Science)
  • 1-2+ years of post-graduate mechanical or electrical engineering experience, preferably in vehicle testing
  • Experience with MECOP, internships, capstone projects, or participation in Formula SAE or Baja programs may suffice in lieu of experience
  • Automotive and/or heavy-duty truck experience or passion
  • Understanding of vehicle powertrain systems
  • Willingness to travel for 4-5 weeks in Summer and Winter, and 1-2 weeks in Fall and Spring
  • Regional availability to Portland or ability to relocate quickly.
  • 2+ years of experience with engine development
  • Experience in a Union shop environment
  • Engine testing experience in diesel, combustion, or battery
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Tools
  • Experience with Vector CANape & CANalyzer, INCA, and MATLAB
  • Experience with chassis and/or towable chassis dyno.
