About The Position

The Test Engineer is responsible for working within the Test Engineering organization to develop and improve all areas of the functional end-of- line test and in-process testing systems within all manufacturing operations locations. This includes performing statistical analysis of existing test parameters to improve first time product acceptance and product defect detection capabilities. This also includes the improvement and repair of mechanical/electrical design features, developing and specifying calibration routines, and troubleshooting electrical controls and hydraulic system related problems. The Test Engineer may also recommend new test equipment and controls/data acquisition solutions that include cost and implementation timing details.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical engineering with at least one year of experience with automatic transmission processes.
  • General knowledge of engineering mechanics, physics, hydraulics, electronics and computer software.
  • A basic understanding of the operational theory and principles of operation of automatic transaxle/transmissions is required.
  • Familiarity with common instrumentation testing equipment and data acquisition and control systems required.
  • Familiarity with common electronic testing instrumentation (oscilloscope, frequency generator, multimeter) and data acquisition systems.
  • Experience programming real-time applications such as PLC and LabVIEW.
  • Experience with electronics and automation.
  • High level of analytical ability required, where problems are unusual and difficult.
  • Must be able to prioritize assigned tasks, and accurately estimate the time and costs required for project completion.
  • The ability to read and interpret manufacturing documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, machine drawings, wiring/electrical schematics, and repair manuals is required.
  • The Test Engineer must have the ability to write detailed reports with supporting documentation and data.
  • The Test Engineer must have the ability to effectively communicate with customers, employees and leaders of the business organization.
  • Must be able to read and understand English.

  • The Test engineer must be able to demonstrate the ability to develop written communication, spreadsheets, charts and graphs.
  • Test engineer must have the ability to interpret multiple test stand programming languages including PLC, LabVIEW, etc.
  • The ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide, in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals is a requirement.
  • The test engineer must have the ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and possess the skills to develop and interpret graphs.
  • This position requires understanding of typical statistical methods and the interpretation of statistical results.
  • The position requires the ability to solve practical problems with limited known variables, in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form is a requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Develops the capability, capacity and reliability of the end-of-line product testing equipment.
  • Recommends and implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and final product quality.
  • Recommends and implements measures for test system replacement parts, preventive maintenance measures and machine inspection frequency to support operational goals.
  • Interfaces with the customer’s engineering resources to develop final test strategies.
  • Prepares and submits new product test validation data to the customer for final test parameter approval.
  • Interfaces with production operations to coordinate test development of new products, based on new product launch and implementation timing goals.
  • Troubleshoots operational capability, quality, capacity and test machine reliability problems and facilitates problem solving efforts to determine root cause and corrective actions.
  • Provides regular status reports and updates to the Engineering Test Systems Manager.
  • Responsible for adherence to the policies, procedures and instructions of the quality management system as related to end of line testing.
