About The Position

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. As a Test Engineer for Blue Origin's satellite programs, you will serve as the guardian of quality and the final arbiter of flight-readiness for our hardware. You will be responsible for the end to end ownership of test solutions, ensuring every component, subsystem, and integrated satellite meets our rigorous standards for performance, reliability, and mission success. Your work is what provides the ultimate confidence that our products will perform flawlessly in the environment of space. We are seeking a deeply technical engineer who can masterfully blend hardware, software, and systems level thinking. You will design, build, and commission the state of the art test systems that power our factory. From defining test requirements early in the design phase to analyzing data from the production line, you will be a critical hub of knowledge. This role is a unique opportunity to build a world class test infrastructure from the ground up for a program that is vital to Blue Origin's future.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a test engineering or electronics hardware development/integration role.
  • Demonstrated hands on experience developing test hardware (e.g., test boxes, harnesses) and software for automated test.
  • Proficiency with a common test scripting language (e.g., Python, NI LabVIEW, C#).
  • Strong understanding of electronics fundamentals and proficiency with standard test equipment (DMMs, oscilloscopes, power supplies, etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the aerospace, defense, or high-reliability electronics industry.
  • Familiarity with spacecraft or avionics communication protocols (e.g., RS-422, CAN bus, SpaceWire, Ethernet).
  • Experience with National Instruments (NI) hardware (PXI, cDAQ) and software (LabVIEW, TestStand).
  • Experience with environmental testing (thermal, vibration, shock).

Responsibilities

  • Test System Design & Development: Architect, design, and build automated test equipment and test stations for avionics, power systems, and integrated satellite hardware. This includes selecting instrumentation (DMMs, oscilloscopes, power supplies, DAQ), designing test racks, and developing custom interface hardware.
  • Test Software & Automation: Develop robust, scalable, and automated test software and scripting (e.g., in Python, NI LabVIEW/TestStand) to control instrumentation, execute test sequences, and log data.
  • Procedure & Requirements Development: Collaborate with design engineering to interpret test requirements and author comprehensive test procedures, including Acceptance Test Procedures (ATPs) and Qualification (Qual) test plans.
  • Design for Test (DFT): Act as the primary test liaison for New Product Introduction (NPI), providing critical DFT feedback to design teams to ensure products can be tested efficiently and effectively at scale.
  • Data Analysis & Troubleshooting: Analyze test data to verify performance against specifications, certify hardware for flight, and lead root cause analysis efforts for test failures, working closely with design and manufacturing teams to drive resolution.
  • System Integration & Support: Commission test stations on the production floor, integrate them with the Manufacturing Execution System (MES), and provide ongoing engineering support to technicians to ensure maximum uptime and throughput.
  • Environmental Testing: Define and support environmental test campaigns, including thermal vacuum (TVAC), vibration, and EMI/EMC testing.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, paid parental leave, short and long-term disability, 401(k) with a company match of up to 5%, and an Education Support Program.
  • Paid Time Off: Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays.
  • Dependent on role type and job level, employees may be eligible for benefits and bonuses based on the company's intent to reward individual contributions and enable them to share in the company's results, or other factors at the company's sole discretion.
  • Bonus amounts and eligibility are not guaranteed and subject to change and cancellation.
